ANIM is committed to ensuring that all musically talented and motivated Afghan youth regardless of gender, ethnicity or social circumstances are given access to a high quality specialist music education within a broader academic education that will allow them to pursue professional careers in music and music-related fields, nationally and internationally.
ANIM has a strong commitment to support the most disadvantaged group in Afghan society – the orphans and street working kids to help them attain a vocation that will allow them to reach their full potential, while contributing to their emotional healing.
The institute’s curriculum is developed from Afghanistan’s general education program as taught in primary and secondary schools combined with a specialist music training program. The music program has been developed in association with the prestigious National College of Music, London based on the UK’s National Curriculum for Music with some adaptation to incorporate the needs of Afghan music. Through this association the institute has achieved an international accreditation and examination system.
Recognising that there is a need to educate and train musically talented children from an early age ANIM accepts students from Grade 4 through to Year 14. At completion of Year 12 students achieve their secondary school certificate. Those who complete Year 14 graduate with a Diploma of Music.
Selection of students is by interview and audition. Fifty percent of places are available to underprivileged Afghan children, including orphans and street working kids.
